LANCASTER, RANCHO TRADING BLOWS ATOP THE SOUTH DIVISION

CLThe Lancaster Jethawks and Rancho Cucamonga Quakes are half-way through a four-game series at LoanMart Field, with each team scoring a win so far. Rancho Cucamonga’s 6-5 win tonight moved the Quakes (7-6) to within one game of the Jethawks (8-5) in the early second-half standings of the South division.

Rancho Cucamonga is already in the playoffs as the first-half division winner and Lancaster is the defending California League champion.

Game one of this series on Tuesday night saw RHP Austin Chrismon shut down the Quakes for seven innings as the Jethawks prevailed by a score of 4-0. The win gave Lancaster a two-game lead in the division.

But Rancho Cucamonga came back tonight and posted a 6-5 win on a 10th-inning walkoff single by RF Josmer Cordero. The teams combined for 25 hits, 12 for Lancaster and 13 for Rancho, and the Quakes are now just a game back.

Both rosters boast numerous players on MLB.com’s top prospect lists (Astros, Dodgers).

The series continues Thursday night at LoanMart Field with Lancaster’s Akeem Bostick (0-2, 3.00 ERA) scheduled to go against Rancho Cucamonga’s John Richy (7-2, 4.20 ERA).

The scheduled starters for Friday’s finale are Bryan Radziewski (1-2, 3.64 ERA) for Lancaster and Luis De Paula (0-1, 4.70 ERA) for the Quakes.
