BELLINGER STAYS HOT AS QUAKES DOWN MAVS 8-2

rancho-cucamonga-quakes-primary-logo-2-primaryA day after dropping both games of a double-header at High Desert, the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes rallied from 2-0 down to outpace the Mavericks 8-2 Thursday night. 1B Cody Bellinger was in the middle of a three-run fourth inning and, after the game was all but decided, blasted his 26th homerun in the ninth inning.

Bellinger is tied with Bakersfield’s Tyler O’Neill for the California League homer lead.

With the win Rancho Cucamonga pulled to within two games of High Desert in the South Division 2nd half standings.

LANCASTER COMES BACK FROM 4-0 DEFICIT, WINS 9-6 OVER 66ERS

lancasterjethawksnewThe Lancaster Jethawks had a pair of three-run innings to climb out of a 4-0 first-inning hole and went on to win 9-6 over Inland Empire at The Hangar Friday night. Marc Wik homered for the second straight night and doubled while driving in three runs in front of a home crowd of 5,722.

Inland Empire rallied big in the first inning off of Lancaster starter Evan Grills. The left-hander gave up the four earned runs when he surrendered four straight hits to the middle of the 66ers lineup, and then left the game in the second due to an apparent injury after facing just 10 batters.

WEEKEND MATCHUPS

A set of four-game series starts today, Thursday through Sunday, as the first half winds down. The  Visalia Rawhide hold a 10-game lead in the North and have a magic number of two to eliminate Modesto and Stockton and claim the first-half crown. Rancho Cucamonga is three games up on Lancaster and three and one-half games ahead of High Desert in the South.

The first half ends Sunday June 21 with the California-Carolina League All-Star Game being played in Rancho Cucamonga on June 23rd.
