Austin Wilson had a rough first half at hiA Bakersfield this season but the 2013 2nd-round pick entered tonight’s game against Modesto swinging a hot bat. After playing 56 first-half games for the Blaze, the Seattle Mariners’ #16 prospect carried a batting line of .191/.291/.299 with just 5 HR and 19 RBI.

When the second half started on June 25th, the Stanford alum went 2-for-5, raising his batting average to .196, but there were more struggles ahead.

66ERS BACK IN THE WIN COLUMN, TOP QUAKES 6-4

IE 66ersThe Inland Empire 66ers got a big night from C Michael Strentz and ended a five-game losing streak with a 6-4 win over the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes at LoanMart Field Saturday night. Strentz had a homer and two doubles to pace Inland Empire’s 9-hit attack.

The home Quakes, with a sold-out crowd of 4,731 looking on, got on the board in the bottom of the first inning. LF Johan Mieses led off with a double and eventually came around to score on an RBI groundout by SS Erisbel Arruebarrena.

DANIEL’S FIRST HOMER HOLDS UP AS 66ERS TOP QUAKES

IE 66ersInland Empire erased an early 1-0 deficit and went on to a 4-3 win over Rancho Cucamonga on the strength of 3B Andrew Daniel‘s 4-RBI night and solid pitching in front of a holiday crowd of 7,282 in San Bernardino. Daniel hit his first homer since joining the 66ers, a two-run shot in the fourth inning that gave IE a 4-1 lead.

RHP Victor Alcantara, the Angels’ #8 prospect in MLB.com’s rankings, gave up a first-inning homer to Cody Bellinger to fall behind 1-0, but went on to pitch six strong innings. IE got two runs in the bottom of the frame and Alcantara never trailed again, giving up 4 hits, 2 ER and striking out 7 with no walks.
